ABOUT WAYNE REID & STILL POINT PHOTOGRAPHY

: Born in New Zealand, I arrived in Australia in 1976, where I have lived ever since. I spent some time in India, Canada & Europe. I have made several return visits to NZ since then because I love and miss the NZ landscape.

: My first photographic interest was stimulated when my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic to record our annual summer holiday travels in the South Island of NZ. I was a young teenager then. My interest in photography became more serious as I found myself discovering "street photography" during my University years. In Auckland, NZ, in the turbulent 1960s & 70s, I photographed a vibrant community expressing its political & environmental concerns. Now my focus is more environmentally oriented, as I turn my lens to the landscape in all its grandeur and also its small, sometimes abstract, detail.

PERSONALLY...

: Since I arrived in Australia, I have been employed in a variety of occupations. Initially I worked as a Nursing Attendant at Caritas Christi, a hospice for the dying in Kew, Melbourne, before training and working as a Psychiatric Nurse, also in Melbourne. After a decade I escaped into a more relaxed occupation as a Postie, before deciding to start my own Record, CD and Book shop ("Rhythm & Views Music & Books") in Northcote, in Melbourne.

: I had always been deeply interested in music, but not being a musician, I figured the only way to make a living from music was to run my own music shop. That enterprise lasted a decade (my life seems to run in 10 year cycles!) and was a most enjoyable and rewarding time, but eventually I suffered a major heart attack, and decided to take things easy for a while, only opening the shop 2 or 3 days a week. Not a good way to make a living, and in the end, our landlord sold the shop (and our accomodation, as we lived above it) to someone who wanted "Vacant Possession"...we had to move, and so we headed for the country, and here we are in Winchelsea, just south west of Geelong, about 2 hours drive from Melbourne.

: In recent years I spent a decade employed in the Community Aged Care sector, as a Coordinator, providing activity programs and social support for the elderly. Presently I am spending most of my time working on my photography.

: I live, with my partner, Helen (who is a Naturopath), two stray cats & a kitten (who have adopted us), owning our "first home", in this little town of Winchelsea, in Victoria, Australia. We are not far from the bush-clad Otway Ranges, & are only a short drive from some beautiful walks, not to mention being close to the wild and wonderful “Great Ocean Road”. We love it here...
